Pipes on the Moselle

Pipes on the Moselle

During a trip to the Eifel region, we visited the Mittelmosel Museum, located - as the name suggests - right on the banks of the Moselle River. To our surprise, the attic level housed a display case filled with locally excavated clay pipes. It featured countless familiar shapes alongside some unique local variations, including even some previously unknown Jonas pipes. These pieces were crafted by regional makers but were clearly inspired by Dutch examples. It just goes to show that, even after fifty years of researching pipes, there is always something new to discover.

Turmac Factory Zevenaar

Turmac Factory Zevenaar

The local museum of Zevenaar is housed in the former Turmac factory, known for its cigarettes in beautiful packaging with Oriental motifs. After the factory closed, the building was renamed the Turmac Culture Factory, a welcoming home for the Liemers Museum, as well as the archive, library, and much more. One section of the museum is dedicated to the former cigarette factory. Various videos bring the history of this company to life, which was by far the city's largest employer at the time. A nice tip for the summer holidays!
