Donation of French Clay Pipes

Sometimes things can take a strange turn. For example, we received a set of French figural clay pipes as a donation from the South of France, likely collected in Paris before the First World War. These pipes ended up as a group in the possession of a Dutch journalist who settled there in 1900. After his death in 1965, his in-laws carefully packed everything, too afraid to break any of the fragile pipes. Ultimately, the next generation had to make a decision. Through a detour, contact was made with our museum in Amsterdam. We will now take on the care of these "pipes with a story." An overview can be seen in our beloved centre display cabinet until April 6, 2026.
