Description:

Pipe case made of ivory in the shape of a pipe with a valve on the bowl side with a serrated silver plate hinge inside. Bowl undecorated with profile lines along the closure, the thumb rest of the valve with a decorative leaf motif, stem near the bowl in embossed ornamental leafwork against a dotted background, followed by two stem parts connected with screw thread, the first twisted counterclockwise with two thin lines in the edges, the second clockwise and cut open, revealing the stem of the clay pipe when filled, but without the thin lines, the twistings separated by a profiled knot, at the end a smaller knob.

Prachtig en zeer vakkundig stukje ivoorwerk waarbij het draaien van torderingen tot in de perfectie uitgevoerd is. De toeschrijving aan Dieppe is louter gebaseerd op het grote vakmanschap van vervaardigen.
