Description:
Snuff tobacco jar made of Delftware with a baluster shape, flat bottom and narrow outward-going lid edge. Painted on the front in Delft blue on the left front the Boterwaag in Amsterdam between leafy branches, on the underside a lying catouche with "N.16". Bottom signature in blue "8 B:P". Back near the bottom stuck paper vignette of a tobacconist with the same Boterwaag standing in oval with a man on a wagon pulled by a horse, on top of the oval oak branches and a small open cartouche in which "J&J" floats above it a ribbon with fluttering ends on which "THE OLD WAAG", on either side "NO. 2", in the slips at the bottom of tobacco packages, in a horizontal rectangle "DEZE EN ANDEREN SOORTEN VAN TABAK SNUIF EN SIGAAREN WORDEN GEFABRICEERD EN VERKOGT BIJ JILISSE & JAMIN IN DE GRAVENSTRAAT AGTER DE NIEUWE KERK NO. 13 TE AMSTERDAM" (these and other types of tobacco, snuff and cigars are manufactured and sold by Jilisse & Jamin in the Gravenstreet behind the New Church no 13 in Amsterdam. |
