Description:

Tobacco pipe made of porcelain with a large stummel bowl, knob heel and straight insert stem with five rings. Bowl front handpainted on ground a group of four people from different parts of the world under a tree on the left, all with a pipe, sitting on the right a man who carves tobacco, a short pipe in the mouth, behind him an Indian with a cigar, a bunch of tobacco leaves in the hand. Valve cover with silver-plated brass frame with a porcelain disc with a ring of rectangular slots. Heel in gold leaf mark cloverleaf. Original mounting with wooden base with moist trap and upright wooden stem with twisted buffalo horn mouthpiece with long flattened bite with six knots.

Comments
Aantekeningen Brongers, c. 1981. Formidabele Duitse pijp in de ateliers van Limbach gemaakt en bedoeld als pronkstuk, waarschijnlijk "den Fürst" aangeboden bij zijn bezoek aan de fabriek. Men ziet op de kop vijf pijprokende mannen (waaronder een priester en een Turk) en één sigaarrokende Indiaan. Eén der mannen heeft een pakje "cnaster", een ander een pakje met het "Reiter" of "Post"-merk, terwijl de priester een schotel met tabak in de hand heeft. Op de achterzijde de toelichting "WIR HABEN ALLE EINERLEIJ GOTT, ABER NICHT EINERLEIJ TOBAC". Duitsland, tweede helft 18e eeuw. Verzekeringswaarde Dfl. 15.000,-.
Bij de tentoonstelling in Wilhelmshaven (1982) wordt deze pijp beschreven als pronkpijp uit de ateliers van Ilmenau.
