Description:
Pipe box or pipe case of tortoise with silver mounting intended for two miniature clay tobacco pipes, elongated model with wooden core covered with thick tortoise, the conical end with a silver cap, the front folds open with a flat silver two-hinged hinge with pointed ends and secured by a silver closing hook. Interior red velvet. |

Comments
| Trevor Barton was buitengewoon gesteld op dit voorwerp omdat hij meende met deze pijpenkas het oudste exempaar uit circa 1600 in handen te hebben. Fellner nam die gedachte over in haar publicatie uit 1992. Het gaat echter om een traditionele pijpenkas maar in miniatuuruitvoering uit het laatst van de zeventiende eeuw of vroege achttiende eeuw. De kas is bestemd voor de zeldzame miniatuurpijpen uit Gouda uit die periode (Vgl. APM 11.394) en is dus om een heel andere reden zeldzaam. Zeker is dat dit voorwerp niet voor Engelse kleipijpen gemaakt is. Zij passen niet in deze kas. |
