Description:

Tubular cigar holder of pipe clay with tip model with a long conical bowl without marking into a straight stem. Bowl opening milling. Bowl around the opening embossed between concentric rings with drooping acanthus leaves on the front in standing oval the crowned coat of arms of Gouda with thorned wreath between elongated palm leaves, below "A.VAN." and "IN", bowl on the reverse side the pipe makers mark 73 crowned including "HOUTE" and "GOUDA". Stem a curling branch with leaves on both sides, flowers and a sitting pigeon on either side of the bowl, two minute flying birds between the branches. Stem end broken off and notched. Later mounted with a cylindrical meerschaum bowl insert and amber mouthpiece, in fitting case with red imitation leather on the outside and white velvet and white imitation silk on the inside.
