Description:

Tobacco pipe made of porcelain with a high Hungarian bowl constricted, round underside without heel and flattened stem widening to stub. Bowl handpainted in multi-colour front a butterfly sitting on a small elongated leaf, four other insects on either side. Mounting with silver flap lid with lens-shaped top on the lid ring, silver mark 12, attached letter mark and illegible rectangular mark. Stem with silver stem holder and locking ring. Original mounting with twisted buffalo horn stem with grunting disc and flexible part with braided copper wire and horn mouthpiece. Silver lock chain (from later date) from the helm to the stub ring.
