Description:

Tobacco pipe made of earthenware with high bowl on flat foot with two forward points, rising straight stem with stub. Bowl front embossed snake body with three zigzag windings around the bowl, neck and head end at the top of the stem together with a sitting bird. Stem with three-storey pattern with geometric-filled beds. Bowl base front between the protruding legs a rectangular roughened field, stem at the back a second seated bird. Stub ribbed along the length.

Comments
Zowel ongebruikelijk in formaat als ontwerp dat door zijn grotere hoogte waarbij de slang zigzaggend om de ketel is gedrapeerd als een sterk gestileerde bijna geometrische vorm. Het vogelmotief op de steel vertoont de karakteristieke stilering van de Ashantikunst.
Betekenis decoratie: Uitgebeeld wordt de slang die normaal altijd op de grond leeft en nu in een zeldzaam geval een vogel uit de lucht grijpt, door deze opmerkelijke daad wijst hij op veel geluk of een uitzonderlijk koopje.
