Old Acquisitions

Sometimes acquisitions arrive at the museum days or even weeks after purchase. This is especially true for long-distance purchases. Today, exactly one hundred antique pipes arrived from far across the border, having been in the care of a widow for years, awaiting a buyer. Most of the material is meerschaum and is of the highest quality. Some large-format portraits are so lifelike that they are true masterpieces of carving. The group also includes several pipes made of ivory, bone, and silver. For now, the acquisitions, removed from their protective packaging, simply lie on the floor of our library, awaiting registration.
